Great Britain’s Charlotte Henshaw tightened her grip on the women’s KL2 race class with another stirring win at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Paracanoe World Cup in Poznań today.

Henshaw, a two-time Paralympic medal-winning swimmer, once again finished ahead of team-mate and Rio 2016 gold medallist Emma Wiggs in the 200 metres race at the Polish city’s Malta Canoe Course.

She triumphed in a time of 48.126sec with Wiggs second in 50.202 and Russia’s Nadezda Andreeva third in 53.974.

Henshaw revealed after her victory that she had overcome disrupted preparation which saw her battle a rib injury.

"It was enough to take its toll a little bit there at the end," Henshaw said.

"A few weeks ago, I wasn’t even sure I was going to be at this event, so to complete a full programme is a bit of a personal goal that I wanted.

"You can’t reach your limit without having someone pushing you and I absolutely would not be where I am without Emma."

Earlier, an emotional Wiggs had also overcome disrupted preparation and a painful wrist injury to take the gold medal in the women’s VL2 event.

Wiggs punched the water with delight after repeating her result from the 2018 ICF Paracanoe World Championships in Montemor-o-Velho in Portugal, winning in a time of 58.301.

Australia's Susan Seipel finished second in 1:00.109, while there was a dead heat for the bronze medal between Russia’s Mariia Nikiforova and Britain’s Jeanette Chippington in 1:00.501.
