South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 87 runs in their first warm-up game for the men's International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, starting in England and Wales next week.

They reached 338-7 in 50 overs at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. 

Sri Lanka were then bowled out inside 43 overs, with further bad news coming in the form of an injury to batsman Avishka Fernando.

South Africa's next challenge will be West Indies in Bristol on Sunday (May 26) before opening the ICC Cricket World Cup against hosts England on May 30.

Sri Lanka have a clash against Australia before they begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Cardiff on June 1.

Elsewhere, Afghanistan took on Pakistan at Bristol County Ground, beating them by three wickets.

Hashmatullah Shahidi scored an unbeaten 74. 

Afghanistan start the World Cup against defending champions Australia and will play one more warm-up game against England on Monday (May 27).

Pakistan face Bangladesh in Cardiff on Sunday before meeting West Indies at Trent Bridge in their first World Cup match.
