Chinese Taipei’s world-ranked number three Chou Tien Chen is men’s singles top seed at the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) Australian Open that is due to start tomorrow and runs until Sunday (June 9).

Chou’s first round opponent in this BWF Super 300 tournament in Sydney’s Quaycentre is home player Daniel Fan.

Proceeding at the other end of the draw will be Indonesian second seed Anthony Ginting, drawn to face South Korea’s Heo Kwang Hee.

There are plenty of lurking threats to the top two in the form of India’s Sameer Verma, seeded six, Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, seeded four, and Ginting’s compatriot Jonatan Christie, seeded three.

China’s Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic champion, and five-times world champion Lin Dan, now 35, is seeded eight - and still capable on his day of beating any player in the world.

In the women’s singles, Japan’s world number two, Nozomi Okuhara, is top seed, and drawn to open her campaign against home player Wendy Chen.

China’s world number four Chen Yufei is seeded two, with India’s current world number three Sindhu Pusarla seeded third and Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon seeded four.
