Tai completes golden haul with seventh world record at Para Swimming World Series in Berlin

Alice Tai claimed two gold medals and a world record on the final day of the Para Swimming World Series in Germany's capital Berlin.

The Briton had already won four gold medals and she made it five with a world record swim to claim the 50 metres butterfly title.

Touching the wall in 30.62sec, she set a seventh S8 category world record at the meet and took gold with 962 points.

German Elena Krakow was third behind compatriot Gina Böttcher on points but was delighted with an S12 world record time of 29.49

Tai won the women's 100m backstroke title ahead of Verena Schott but the German turned the tables to win the women's 200m individual medley.

Compatriot Josia Topf, an S3 category swimmer, added to the home celebrations as he set a world record in the men's 50m butterfly event.

The 15-year-old clocked 54.01 to earn 1,066 points with Britain's Stephen Clegg winning the silver on 968 points and Czech swimmer Arnost Petracek taking bronze on 938 points.

United States swimmer Robert Griswold won the men's 100m backstroke and there was a gold medal for Rogier Dorsman in the men's 200m individual medley.

When British skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Olympic gold medal in ice dance at Sarajevo 1984 with 12 perfect 6.0s from every judge, for their interpretation of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, an important member of their team was singer-actor Michael Crawford. Crawford, who had played Frank Spencer in British sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and the title role in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, had become a mentor to the pair in 1981 and went on to help them create their Olympic routine. Crawford said he “taught them how to act". He was present with their trainer Betty Callaway at the ringside at Sarajevo as they created one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.
