Munich_2018_logoOctober 18 – What if? That is the question posed by a new nationwide advertising campaign designed to increase awareness of Munich's bid for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Featuring Munich 2018 sports ambassadors - 10-time Paralympic gold medallist Martin Braxenthaler and German Olympic skier Felix Neureuther (both pictured) - the promotion focuses on the Winter Games' potential to create a more integrated society.

The athletes, close friends and training partners, are seen skiing side by side with the text: "What if...their differences didn't make a difference? That's the power of Munich 2018."

The adverts will run in Germany's daily national newspapers and other print media.

Katarina Witt, chair of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee, said: "Munich 2018 hopes that with our new integrated campaign we can further engage with the people of Germany and boost national enthusiasm for our bid to host the Winter Games in 2018.

"Our dream is to unite the whole of Germany and the entire Olympic family.

"The Games are something to look forward to with excitement, and these positive feelings will be spread across the nation by our newspaper and television advertisements, along with our online banners proclaiming the celebratory atmosphere that would surround the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Munich."

Bernhard Schwank, chief executive of the Munich 2018 Bid Committee, said: "The Munich 2018 campaign will emphasise the wealth of opportunities for Germany and its people, should Munich be selected to host the Winter Games, and also strengthen the overwhelming support for the bid in all spheres of German society.

"We also hope that with Munich 2018 national supplier pilot sport's invaluable contribution, the advertisements will help reflect the Bavarian culture of warmth and hospitality with which we hope to welcome the world in 2018."

The Munich 2018 Bid Committee is currently preparing for its first international presentation to the Olympic family at the Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly in Acapulco later this week.
