British_WeightliftingOctober 18 - British Weight Lifting has appointed a media consultancy to increase its profile and promote the sport in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.

Snowdon Sports will handle media enquiries and generate publicity for everything from the elite athletes to the grassroots through a monthly newsletter and regular website updates.

Senior director Frazer Snowdon said: "We're delighted to be working with British Weight Lifting.

"With the Olympics and Paralympics in London in less than two years it's an exciting time.

"But weight lifting is not just about 2012, as many of our athletes will be aiming for Glasgow 2014, Rio in 2016 and beyond that.

"Aside from the top level, weight lifting is a great sport to help keep you in shape, and a great way to set and achieve personal lifting goals."

British Weight Lifting performance manager Fiona Lothian said: "Our weight lifters and Paralympic power lifters are starting to make good progress as we move towards London 2012 and it's important they get recognition for this."

Sam Jamieson, British Weight Lifting development officer, said: "It's great to have Frazer on board, and I will be working with him to promote both weight lifting and Paralympic power lifting and show what great participation sports they are."

Snowdon Sports already provides media services to England Hockey, the Rugby Football Union and the British Handball Association, and has experience in sports ranging from darts to cricket.
