D'hoore was victorious on the 146.5 km third stage from Henley-on-Thames to Blenheim Palace, beating Brennauer of Germany into second place.

Demi Vollering of Netherlands, France's Roxane Fournier and Australian Sarah Roy made up top five.

Vos, the 2012 Olympic road race champion and winner of this inaugural race in 2014, was one of six riders forced to abandon the course mid-stage after a crash near Didcot.

The Dutch rider needed stitches for a cut to her face and her CCC-Live team confirmed her event had been brought to a premature end.

Vos said: “The speed went up in preparation for the second intermediate sprint.

"There was a fall before me due to a dent in the road, which I could not avoid.

"I fell hard on my head but, apart from a cut and some scratches, I don’t have any other injuries, yet I went to the hospital because the cut had to be stitched. 

"It's very unfortunate.

"I was quite upset by it because I was in such a good position, but even after a fall, the race continues, this time without me.”

WNT-ROTOR rider Brennauer is aiming for her second victory in this competition, having won the 2015 tour.

Stage four of six takes place on Thursday (June 13), with a 158.9km race from Warwick to Burton Dassett Country Park, with the first hilltop finish in the history of the race.
