Hosts Dominican Republic claimed three of the nine gold medals up for grabs as the Pan American Beach Sambo Championships took place in Santo Domingo today.

Among the home nation's trio of winners on Boca Chica Beach was Mary Paniagua, who beat Mexico's Joselin Ramirez in the women's 64 kilograms final.

There was also victory for Ruth Montero after she defeated Peru's Heiddy Cruz in the women's 72kg gold medal match.

Further success came the Dominican Republic's way in the team competition ahead of Costa Rica and Mexico.

Today's two other female champions were Costa Rica's Reina Cordoba and Cuba's Mirtha Nieves in the 56kg and over-72kg categories respectively.

Cordoba overcame Venezuela's Luisaigna Campos in her final, while Nieves saw off the Dominican Republic's Audrey Puello to seal her triumph.

Today's four men's finals saw Venezuela's Lucas Borregales beat Peru's Jack Guzman at 62kg, Mexico's Gilberto Cardoso defeat the United States' Derrick Darling at 74kg, the US's Alfred Brown overcome Cuba's Jesus Crespo at 90kg and Canada's Martin Rygielski prevail at the expense of Mexico's David Garfias at over-90kg.
