Cuba beat the United States in the men's épée team event final as action concluded today at the Pan American Fencing Championships in Toronto.

A 45-38 win saw the Cubans take top honours at Delta Hotels Toronto Airport and Conference Centre.

They had earlier defeated Argentina 45-39 in the semi-finals.

That was the same scoreline by which the US overcame hosts Canada in the other last-four encounter.

Argentina claimed a 42-37 victory over Canada in the bronze medal match.

In the women's sabre team final, the US beat Canada 45-34 to make it 10 gold medals from 12 events at the Championships.

It followed a 45-42 win over Mexico in the semi-finals.

Canada reached the final by registering a 45-38 victory over Venezuela, who went on to lose 45-36 against Mexico in the third-place playoff.
