Peru have reached the final of the Copa América for the first time since 1975 after beating holders Chile 3-0 in Porto Alegre.

They will face hosts Brazil after seeing off an ageing Chilean side who had won both previous versions of the South American continental tournament in 2015 and 2016.

Peru were the better side throughout and led after 21 minutes through winger Edison Flores, who fired into the corner with his left foot following a corner.

Yoshimar Yotún made it 2-0 before halftime after an error from Chile goalkeeper Gabriel Arias, who rushed out of his area to meet a through ball but was beaten to it by Peruvian winger André Carrillo.

Carrillo squared to Yotún on the edge of the area and the midfielder chested the ball before volleying into the open goal.

Chile improved after the break, with Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese having to make important saves from Alexis Sánchez, Arturo Vidal and Jean Beasejour.

However, Peru found their third goal on the counter, captain Paolo Guerrero rounding Arias to complete the scoring in stoppage time although there was still time for Eduardo Vargas to miss a Chile penalty, his chipped kick saved by Gallese in the final action of a dramatic encounter.

Peru, who were beaten 5-0 by Brazil in the group stage, will face the hosts again in Sunday's (July 7) final at the Maracanã.
