Spain moved a step closer to successfully defending their International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women’s EuroBasket title after beating Russia in the quarter-finals in Belgrade today.

Astou Ndour was the holders' top performer as they prevailed 78-54 at Belgrade Arena.

The Senegalese-born player managed 24 points, 12 rebounds, one steal and two blocks in an impressive display.

Awaiting Spain in the semi-finals on Saturday (July 6) are hosts Serbia, who defeated Sweden 87-49 in the last eight.

Ana Dabović claimed 19 points for the Serbs and also registered five rebounds and three assists.

The other semi-final pits Britain against France.

Britain booked their place in the penultimate round for the first time after edging out Hungary 62-59.

Temi Fagbenle led the way with 29 points, eight rebounds, one steal and two blocks.

France, meanwhile, survived an overtime thriller to clinch their spot in the last four.

Following a 68-68 draw, the French scored 16 points to the Belgian's 12 in the additional period to prevail 84-80.

Sandrine Gruda was France's top performer, amassing 33 points, 10 rebounds and one block.

All four semi-finalists have also secured a place at next year's World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Tokyo 2020.
