Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) technical director Chika Chukwumerije has expressed his delight over the successful completion of national trials for the 2019 African Games.

As reported by Brila.net, the three-time Olympian confirmed the NTF had used the trials in Abuja to discover athletes capable of competing for the nation at this year's continental event, which is due to take place in Morocco's capital Rabat from August 19 to 31.

"You can see that the best will have to storm the national camp following the output of the national trials, knowing how formidable our opponents from various African countries are," Chukwumerije said.

"The timing is very short but we have to imbibe or rather deploy an aggressive, technical and tactical programme to make sure the athletes are able to medal among the contingent that will represent Nigeria in the All-Africa Games."

Earlier this year, Chukwumerije was certified as a global educator by World Taekwondo.

The Nigerian gained the accolade after taking part in a course at the Taekwondowon in Muju in South Korea.

It means he is now certified to teach other coaches in Nigeria with the project designed to improve standards across the world.

Chukwumerije is the only Nigerian to win an Olympic taekwondo medal, claiming bronze in the men's over-80 kilograms division at Beijing 2008.
