Tóth, the 2014 world and 2016 European silver medallist, is due to take to the mats at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena on Sunday (July 14).

Another athlete expected to shine is two-time world champion Mayra Aguiar of Brazil.

She will be aiming to win the second IJF Grand Prix gold medal of her career in the women's under-78kg division.

Her first came at a stop in Mexican city Cancún in June 2017.

The event in Budapest comes at a crucial time with the qualification process for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games having reached the halfway point and the 2019 World Championships scheduled to take place in Japan's capital at the end of next month.

"The Hungarian capital is a stage that befits the champions of our sport and the desire of our elite judoka who are dreaming of earning a place in Japan," IJF President Marius Vizer said.

"The Hungarian Judo Association has a tremendous level of experience and expertise when it comes to staging major judo events, including the 2017 World Championships, and enjoys a wonderful working relationship with the IJF. 

"I wish good luck to the organising team and all the coaches, athletes, officials and volunteers."

Competition will be spread across three days, starting tomorrow.

Medals will be awarded tomorrow in the men's under-60kg and under-66kg categories, and the women's under-48 kg, under-52kg and under-57kg divisions.
