Unruh won her opening round in the recurve women’s individual 6-0 against New Zealand’s Olivia Hodgson, then defeated Thailand’s Narisara Khunhiranchaiy by the same score in the second round.

Jeon Ina of South Korea won her second-round match 6-0 against Russia’s Anna Balsukova.

Japan’s Waka Sonoda also progressed from the second round with a 6-4 win over Audrey Adicecom of France.

In the recurve men's individual competition, Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar Mussayev beat Jack Williams of the United States 6-2 in their second-round match.

Other men’s second-round winners included Malaysia’s Muhammad Nor Hasrin, who beat Mexico’s Luis Alvarez 6-4, Russia’s Arsalan Baldanov, who defeated Sultan Duzelbayev of Kazakhstan 6-4, Britain’s Tom Hall, who beat Crispin Duenas of Canada 7-3, and South Korea’s 2013 world individual champion and Rio 2016 team gold medallist Lee Seung-yun, who beat Britain’s Alexander Wise 7-3.
