The one-day event at Prince Hamzah Hall is a key stop before the sport makes its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020 next year.

Competition will take place across the K41, K42, K3 and K44 classes.

Men will be in action at under-61 kilograms, under-75kg and over-75kg with women contesting under-49kg, under-58kg and over-58kg divisions.

Jordan Taekwondo Federation (JTF) President Prince Rashid Bin El Hassan welcomed athletes to the event.

Taekwondo has become popular in the Asian nation after Ahmed Abughaush won Jordan's first Olympic medal of any colour by securing gold at Rio 2016 in the men's 68 kilograms.

Fifty-thousand taekwondo robes are said to have been sold in the country in the three months after the Games in Brazil. 

"The Jordan Taekwondo Federation is privileged to be given the honour by World Taekwondo Asia to host the Championships from July 18 at the Princess Sumaya Hall in Amman," said Prince Rashid.

"JTF believes that these competitions will serve to provide not only the opportunity for the athletes to display their skills but also to promote friendship and camaraderie among the member nations. 

"We are confident that these events will be of high competitive level and we are ready to give our best efforts to make these 2019 Asian Championships one of the best ever organised."

Amman is also hosting Asian Championships for cadets and juniors later this month, as well as a poomsae event.
