China's second seed Shi Yuqi needed to come from behind to win his first round match at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Indonesia Open in Jakarta.

The world number two and World Championship runner-up was on the back-foot after conceding the first game to India's Prannoy Kumar.

He battled back, however, coming through 19-21, 21-18, 22-20 to book his spot in the second round against Denmark's Anders Antonsen.

The bottom halves of both the men's and women's singles draws began today at the prestigious Super 1000 tournament, the highest tier of the BWF World Tour.

As with yesterday, all of the seeds survived at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno venue which was used at the 2018 Asian Games.

China's sixth seed Chen Long, the reigning Olympic champion, also needed three games to progress as he beat Indonesia's home hope Tommy Sugiarto 22-20, 14-21, 21-17.

Eighth seed Srikanth Kidambi of India was more comfortable, seeing off Japan's Kenta Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13.

Sindhu, the World Tour Finals champion who won the silver medal at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, eventually won 11-21, 21-15, 21-15.

Round-of-16 action will begin in Jakarta tomorrow.

The tournament, also including men's, women's and mixed doubles, will conclude with finals on Sunday (July 21).
