Olympian Sarah Murphy has been appointed as high performance and office coordinator at Biathlon Canada.

The 31-year-old began her role this week and will be responsible for supporting the high performance programme with logistics and supplier relations.

She will also coordinate the administration of team selection policies and athlete assistance programmes, as well as work with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.

Although born in Canada, Murphy represented New Zealand in biathlon where her mother is from.

She competed at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver to become New Zealand's first Olympic biathlete.

Murphy finished 82nd in both the sprint and individual events with her international career stretching seven years.

She took up the sport at the age of 12.

In 2013, Murphy graduated from Queenstown Resort College in New Zealand after studying adventure tourism management.

Biathlon Canada is currently based in Canmore in Alberta.

In April, the organisation announced that head coach Matthias Ahrens and operations coordinator Marian Harvie had both left.

It came after three-time Olympian Rosanna Crawford called for changes to be made.

The retiring Crawford expressed concern over the organisation's ability to achieve success, with funding cited as a key challenge.
