After winning the men's T51-54 400 metres yesterday, the 16-year-old triumphed in the 100m in 16.24sec at Sport Arena of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.

He beat Portugal's Rafael Neto, who ran 16.51 for silver, while bronze went to Jannes Guenther of Germany, who finished in 17.58.

"It makes me feel super honoured to represent my team," said Atwood.

"I've been looking forward to this for the last two years; I saw my team mates back home make it two years ago and I couldn't.

"Making it now, I feel exhilarated."

Atwood's team mate Hannah Dederick added her seventh World Junior Championship gold medal.

After winning five events in 2017, she followed her T51-54 400m win yesterday with gold in the 100m.

There was also gold for visually impaired sprinter Noah Malone, the 17-year-old winning the T11-13 100m.

Malone has run under 10.6 this season, but did not need to be at his best today as he took the title in 10.92.

Runner-up Chane Hendricks of South Africa ran 11.36, while Brazil's Pablo Furlan was third in 11.49.

There was disappointment for South African double above-knee amputee Ntando Mahlangu, who stormed the under-18 events two years ago with four gold medals and world records in the T42 100m and 400m.

He was third in the under-20 T45-64 100m today, with Phil Grolla of Germany winning and Thomaz Ruan de Moraes of Brazil claiming the silver.
