Powerhouses Canada and the United States both claimed huge victories on quarter-finals day at the Women's Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships.

Defending champions and hosts Canada eased past Germany 21-1 at the Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough.

Eve Hritzuk scored five times in the rout as Kylea Dobson helped herself to a hat-trick.

The US, who lost the 2015 final to the Canadians and are hoping for a fifth title, demolished Wales 26-0.

They scored 17 times in the first half before slowing down in the second when the job was already done.

The Americans also blanked Hong Hong in their round-of-16 match yesterday where they recorded a 25-0 win.

Former winners Australia and England also booked their places in the semi-finals in much closer games.

Australia pipped Japan 8-7 while England proved just too strong for New Zealand, winning 11-9.

The New Zealanders were fortunate to be playing at this stage as they lost their last-16 match to Puerto Rico yesterday.

However, the Caribbean side were not allowed to advance to the last eight as they are only an associate member of World Lacrosse.

The semi-finals will be played tomorrow with Canada meeting England and the US taking on Australia.
