Four years ago, the US lost a close final against Canada 9-8 in Scotland but will bid to turn the tables on their North American rivals.

The US dominated against Australia as they recorded a 21-6 semi-final victory at Justin Chiu Stadium.

"I think we knew we were going to be tested like that after playing the first game we had with Australia,” said US defender and co-captain Ally Murphy. 

"We knew the type of attack they had and I think we did a pretty good job of pressuring them."

The US got off to a fast start before conceding their first goal in 133 minutes when Madison Copeland breached their defence.

The second quarter was played in a heavy rainstorm for much of the 15-minute period but the US had already moved into a 9-4 lead.

They pulled away in the second half for a convincing win and will fancy their chances against Canada, who they defeated 13-5 in the pool phase of the Championship.

Canada trailed England 7-5 in a fierce contest but, buoyed by a thunderous home crowd, they scored the last five goals of the match to win 10-7.

Australia and England will contest the third-place play-off tomorrow.

The match is also a repeat of the bronze medal match from 2015, when England won 10-9.
