World Skeleton Championship 2015 bronze medallist Elisabeth Maier will take a break from the sport after announcing her pregnancy on social media.

The 25-year-old Canadian told her followers on Instagram that her and husband Ben, an Austrian bobsleigh pilot, are expecting in December.

She will miss the upcoming winter season but announced that she plans to return to competition for the 2020-2021 season.


Maier competed in her first World Cup races in December 2014, finishing second and first, respectively.

She has since gone on to claim 12 podiums in Skeleton World Cup races, including three victories.

The Canadian was third overall in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup 2017 to 2018 season.
