The German becomes the IFA's sixth President and replaces Austrian Karl Weiss, who steps down from the role after eight years in the role.

The 47-year-old sports manager had been secretary general for the IFA since 2015.

Weiss, who helped develop the IFA from 27 member nations to 61, was elected as Honorary President by the Congress.

Giana Hexsel of Brazil, New Zealand's Vikki Buston and Steve Schmutzler from Germany were elected as vice-presidents.

At the Congress, members approved a joint application for Mannheim to host the 2023 IFA Men's Fistball World Championship.

The application came from the German Fistball League, the Rhine-Neckar Metropol region with Mannheim, and the fistball club TV Käfertal.

Delegates agreed to the preliminary round being held at the Rhein-Neckar Campus in Mannheim, a stadium with a capacity of 5,000.

The final round is due to be contested at the SAP Arena, home to Rhein-Neckar Löwen handball team and the Adler Mannheim ice hockey club.

The SAP Arena can host 12,000 spectators.

"It will be the first international fistball event to be played on natural grass indoors," head of the sport department for the city of Mannheim, Uwe Kaliske said.

President Verleger added: "We expect a sold out venue and a big step up in terms of presentation of the sport and the media production for fistball."

The IFA Congress was held as part of the ongoing IFA World Fistball Championship.

Pre-sale tickets for the final weekend of the 2023 tournament, to be played over July 28 and 29 in 2023, have been made available for the duration of the 2019 World Championship at a one-off price of €39 (£36/$43).

The ticket offer is due to end on Saturday (August 17).
