Japan topped the qualification standings in the three lead events on day one of the International Federation of Sport Climbing Youth World Championships in Arco in Italy.

In the men's youth B category, Satone Yoshida finished first, ahead of compatriot Haruki Uemura and Canada's Oscar Baudrand at the RockMaster Climbing Stadium.

Ryu Nakagava led the way in the women's youth B division, with France's Oriane Bertone second and Japan's Hana Koike third.

There was also qualification action in the men's junior category, which saw Shuta Tanaka come out on top.

Austria's Stefan Scherz was the runner-up, while France's Alistair Duval ranked third.

Qualification for the men's and women's youth A categories, and women's junior division, is tomorrow.

The semi-finals and finals in all six competitions are scheduled for the weekend.

Attention will then turn to boulder and speed events from Monday (August 26).
