Parsons, who is in Peru for the event, claimed the venues were "fantastic" and expressed confidence in Lima 2019 delivering a successful edition of the Games.

The Brazilian attended the Parapan American Torch lighting ceremony held at the Pachacámac Temple yesterday.

He will be among the delegates at the Opening Ceremony at Estadio Nacional de Lima tomorrow.

"We were surprised by the top-level events delivered by Lima," Parsons said.

"The Pan American Games were a success. 

"I was at the Opening Ceremony and it was wonderful, so I’m confident that you have prepared something very special for the Parapan American Games Opening Ceremony. 

"It is very special to be finally here, after all the efforts invested by COPAL and Lima in these Games. 

"We are here to enjoy the Games together."

Parsons added: "I still remember when the Village was in its earliest stage, but now it is fully completed with the corresponding services implemented. 

"Being able to be with the athletes in the dining hall and ask them how they feel about the operations and seeing them very happy and dazzled by the quality of service offered is great.

"The venues are fantastic and we are all very happy."

Around 1,890 athletes are expected to compete across 17 sports and 18 disciplines at the Games, which conclude on September 1.

"The Games will leave a legacy represented by great Para athletes, who will teach us to live in a fairer and more equal society," added Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus.

Sporting action began at the multi-sport event today with preliminary round table tennis matches.

The first gold medals will be on offer in table tennis before the start of the Ceremony.
