The Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria is to host an athlete try-out combine for the first time.

National squad hopefuls can register to take part in the event, taking place on Saturday (August 31) in Lagos.

Sprinting, jumping and shot put will all be part of testing at the National Stadium.

A pushing competition using wooden sleds will also be held.

It is hoped the event could unearth future Winter Olympians in bobsleigh and skeleton for Nigeria.

Two special guests have been invited, including bobsleigh pilot Seun Adigun who competed in the two-woman event at Pyeongchang 2018 where Nigeria debuted at the Winter Olympics.

Adigun, also a 100 metre hurdler, became the first African athlete to appear at both the Summer and Winter Olympics after featuring on the track at London 2012.

Ghana's skeleton slider Akwasi Frimpong, a Pyeongchang 2018 Olympian, will also attend the try-out.

Both athletes followed in the footsteps of other sliders from tropical nations who have made an unlikely mark at Winter Games.

The Jamaican bobsleigh team at the Calgary 1988 Olympics, later immortalised in the film Cool Runnings, are the most famous example.
