Russia claimed two of the three gold medals on offer on the first day of speed finals at the International Federation of Sport Climbing Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy.

Elena Remizova was the first Russian climber to secure victory at the RockMaster Climbing Stadium, beating Chile's Alejandra Contreras in the women's junior big final.

She was followed by Iaroslav Pashkov, who defeated the Jordan Fishman of the United States in the men's youth A big final after his opponent fell when leading. 

Poland's Aleksandra Kalucka was the women's junior bronze medallist, while South Korea's Jung Yongjun finished third in the men's youth A event. 

The one other gold medal won today went to American Emma Hunt, after she overcame compatriot Kiara Pellicane-Hart in the women's youth A big final.

Home favourite Anna Calanca rounded off the podium.

In boulder competition, Great Britain's Maximillian Milne topped the men's junior semi-final standings and France's Oriane Bertone led the way in the penultimate round of the women's youth B. 

Action in Arco continues tomorrow, with medals in the men's youth B, women's youth B and men's junior boulder events.
