India's Elavenil Valarivan won the women's 10 metres air rifle final to claim the first gold medal of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

The 20-year-old secured her maiden senior ISSF World Cup title with a total of 251.7 points at Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo.

The silver medal went to Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh with 250.6, while Chinese Taipei's Lin Ying-Shin came third with 229.9.  

Before the start of the final, the two Olympic quotas available in the event were secured by Lin and Iran's Armina Sadeghian.

Switzerland's Jan Lochbihler and Norway's Simon Claussen also top the first and second relays of elimination in the men's 50m rifle three positions event.

Lochbihler finished on a qualification world record total of 1,188 points and Claussen registered 1,180.

In the precision stage of women's 25m pistol qualification, Poland's Klaudia Bres prevailed with a total of 296 points

The ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup continues tomorrow with medals in the men's 50m rifle three positions, women's 25m pistol and men's 10m air pistol events.
