The 17-year-old has impressed in the junior ranks and made his multi-sport event debut in Peru's capital in July.

He was beaten in the first round of the men's 68 kilograms competition by American Carl Nickolas but still showed great fighting spirit, especially in the third and final round.

"To be able to represent Jamaica and walk among my fellow Jamaican athletes is an experience that I will never forget and will always cherish," Sealy told the Jamaica Gleaner.

"The Pan American Games was quite an impressive event. 

"The magnitude of this event was a little intimidating, and I am now working on relaxation techniques and continuing with my international training.

"I allowed nerves to get the best of me in the first two rounds."

Sealy made history as the first Jamaican gold medallist at the Pan American Open when he won a junior title in Spokane, Washington, last year.

He won a senior bronze at the Pan American Open Championship in Portland, Oregon, in the run-up to Lima 2019, his first podium finish at senior level.

Jamaica Taekwondo Federation executive Kenroy Clarke told the Jamaica Gleaner: "I'm sincerely elated and proud of him because he trains ­assiduously seven days a week and maintains an A+ average in school despite competing during the semester.

"His first competition was in March this year at the Pan American Games ­qualifiers. 

"Competing in his first event against more experienced athletes seemed like an incredulous task, but he proved himself by qualifying for the Pan American Games."
