Elizabeth Madden clinched victory at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Jumping World Cup North American League event in New York.

The American triumphed at the competition, the first East Coast qualifier of the season, on eight-year-old horse Garant.

A six-rider jump-off was required to separate the top riders, with two-time World Cup Final champion Madden ultimately emerging as the winner.

She ended a clear round in a time of 40.89sec to clinch victory.

"He's a young horse," Madden said.

"The plan was to step him up this fall.

"He jumped on Friday, and he went so well, we decided to go today.

"I wasn't even sure I was doing this class this week when we came here.

"For him to come through like that today is amazing."

Madden’s time had come under threat from Karl Cook, who was last to compete on Caillou.

Cook ultimately was forced to settle for second place after finishing in a time of 41.25.

The podium was rounded off by Katie Dinan, who completed an American clean sweep by clocking 41.94 on Brego R’n B.
