Gimeo, the youngest member of the taekwondo squad, collected bronze in the women's K44 under-49 kilograms category in Peru's capital.

"[My match] was difficult," she said. 

"But I just had to tell myself 'don't worry about the crowd'. 

"Just leave it all on the mat. 

"That's all that matters."

Gimeno, who was born with cerebral palsy, is now looking forward to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics where taekwondo will make its debut.

"It's really exciting," she said.

"I'm ready and excited for what comes next – the qualifiers and hopefully Tokyo.

"It's an honour representing my country.

"It's really cool. 

"I get to visit so many places and it's a very humbling feeling."
