England went through after beating Finland ©World Lacrosse

England and Czech Republic advanced into the quarter-finals of the World Lacrosse Men's Indoor World Championship as knock-out play began in British Columbia.

The English lost all four of their matches in the elite blue group but with every side from the pool guaranteed to advance, their tournament was still alive at Langley Events Centre.

They had to drop into the opening play-off round alongside the winners of the other three groups, however.

It meant a clash with orange group winners Finland, which they safely negotiated 15-6.

They will now meet Israel, who finished fourth in the blue group to earn an automatic quarter-final place.

Israel beat England 8-7 following overtime in the group phase so a tight game is expected.

Green group winners Czech Republic beat orange group winners The Netherlands to also go through, 17-6.

They now face a tough quarter-final assignment against United States, who finished third in the blue group and have won bronze at every edition of the World Lacrosse Men's Indoor World Championship.

Hosts Canada and Iroquois Nationals have advanced straight into the semi-finals after finishing first and second in the blue group respectively.

The Canadians have won every World Championship held, beating the side representing the Native American confederacy on all four occasions.

The quarter-finals will be held tomorrow.
