Aliou Balde and Amete Faye rose from the bench to inspire Senegal to victory in the Brazilian municipality. 

Gianluca Busio had given the US the lead in the third minute of this Group D match. 

Souleymane  Faye struck just before the half-time whistle with a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner to equalise.

Senegal took the lead in the 72nd minute through substitute Balde before another substitute, Amete Faye, scored four minutes later to put them in the driving seat.

America's Tayvon Gray was sent-off in the 87th minute before Pape Sarr scored Senegal's fourth a minute later.

Elsewhere, it was a good day for Asian teams  as both Japan and South Korea got their campaigns off to winning starts. 

In the much-anticipated Group D duel between the Asian and European champions, Japan performed brilliantly to see off The Netherlands 3-0 in Cariacica.

This was thanks in part to Yamato Wakatsuki's impressive brace in the 36th and 69nd minutes with Jun Nishikawa adding a third from the penalty spot in the 77th minute. 

South Korea, meanwhile, were workmanlike in their 2-1 defeat Haiti in Group C, despite the tight scoreline at the Estádio da Serrinha in Goiânia.

In the other match in Group C, France beat Chile 2-0 with goals from Lucien Agoumé and Isaac Lihadji.

Tomorrow there are scheduled to be matches in Group E and Group F.
