Top-seeded athletes have learned who they will face in the last-64 of the three International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cups which began today.

At the FIE Women's Sabre World Cup in Orléans in France, Francesca Russo of the United States has earned the right to face top seed Olga Kharlan of Ukraine.

Russo progressed from Pool 22 at Palais des Sports before beating Ukraine's Olena Kravatska 15-10 and Romania's Sabina Martis 15-6 to secure her place in the main draw.

South Korea's Ma Segeon set up a clash with top seed Kazuyasu Minobe of Japan at the Men's Épée World Cup in Swiss city Bern.

It comes after he defeated Spain's Alvaro Ibanez 15-11, Hong Kong's Chau Chak Hin Nicholas 15-8 and France's Mathias Biabiany 15-10 at Sporthalle Wankdorf.

Action also got underway at the FIE Women's Foil World Cup in Egypt's capital Cairo.

Top-seeded Russian Inna Deriglazova, the reigning Olympic and world champion, will have to overcome Italy's Camilla Mancini.

Mancini advanced from Pool 21 today prior to beating Hong Kong's Cheng Hiu Wai Valerie 15-9 and Poland's Marta Łyczbińska by the same scoreline at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex.

Individual competition will conclude at all three events tomorrow.

Team competition will then take centre stage on Sunday (November 24).
