Two previous winners of the International Table Tennis Federation Men's World Cup have been drawn together in the group stage of this year's tournament in Chengdu.

Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus will compete in Group A alongside Daniel Habesohn of Austria at the Sichuan Province Gymnasium.

Ovtcharov, the world number 12, last won the Men's World Cup in 2017 and finished fourth in Paris last year.

Samsonov is a three-time champion at the event, having lifted the trophy in 1991, 1999 and 2003.

The 43-year-old veteran will be aiming to match Ma Lin of China's record for the most World Cup victories, which stands at four.

Group B features Lee Sang-su of South Korea, American Kanak Jha and Omar Assar.

Nigerian Quadri Aruna, a late replacement for the injured Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong, Kristian Karlsson of Sweden and Heming Hu of Australia form Group C.

Simon Gauzy of France, Jonathan Groth of Denmark and India's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran comprise Group D.

The top eight seeds - including world number one Fan Zhendong of China and compatriot Ma Long, the Olympic champion - will progress straight to the knockout round.

The remaining 12 will battle it out in the group phase, where the top two in each group join the world's top players in the last 16.
