Elections took place to determine the nine-member Commission, with hockey player Tessa-Maree Harman, baseball's Inoke Niubalavu and footballer Naomi Waqanidrola among those chosen.

Para-athletics competitor Jone Bogidrau, shooting's Quintyn Stephen, Va’a's Susan Vocea, triathlete Petero Manoa and chess player Hilda Vukikomoala also feature on the Commission.

It is completed by Olympian and multiple Pacific Games swimming medallist Matelita Buadromo.

Vukikomoala was chosen to serve as chair of the new-look Athletes' Commission.

Former chair Niubalavu stressed the need for the Commission to increase its links with national federations to ensure athletes are aware of their work and can come to the group for assistance.

"FASANOC's Athletes' Commission serves as a link between athletes and FASANOC and their concerns are our concerns," he said.

"This forum is to reaffirm that link, as well as strengthening the support between FASANOC, the Commission and athletes."

"Athletes not knowing about the Commission is partly because we have not been actively engaging national federations and we hope to make our presence known to the national federations and athletes under this new leadership."

"The responsibilities of the Commission also include empowerment, support, promotion and representation," Niubalavu added.

"We want to empower athlete representation in decision-making processes and support athlete development in their sporting and non-sporting careers.

"We also would like to promote athlete involvement in decision-making to ensure athlete representation."

The Athletes' Commission was elected during an Athletes' Forum at Fiji Olympic House.

Two athletes from the country's 40 national federations were invited to participate and contribute to the strategic plan.

The Commission were presented with a sample of Fiji's team kit for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and given the chance to provide feedback.

Each member of the Commission will serve a four-year term.
