The 47-year-old visually-impaired rider was killed when his bike collided with a car near Adelaide on November 13.

It prompted a huge outpouring of tributes and a GoFundMe page was set-up for his family by Keren Faulkner.

At the time of writing this has raised AUD$14,950 (£8,000/$10,000/€9,000) thanks to 93 different donors.

"Kieran Modra, AM, was one of Australia's most decorated Paralympians but first and foremost he was a much loved father, husband, brother and son," the page says.

"Kieran was tragically killed when he was struck by a car while cycling on 13th November 2019, leaving his wife Kerry and three precious daughters, Holly, Makala and Janae.

"As a sign of respect for Kieran's huge contribution to the lives of others, please donate as a gift to support his family and help us leave a legacy of care in his name." 

Modra represented Australia at eight different Paralympic Games, in three different sports.

After competing in athletics at Seoul 1988, he switched to swimming for Barcelona 1992 and claimed his first Paralympic medals – bronzes in the men's 100 and 200 metres backstroke B3 events.

He then found phenomenal success in cycling, winning his five Paralympic gold medals and three bronzes between Atlanta 1996 and Rio 2016.

Paralympics Australia chief executive Lynne Anderson described him as a "giant" of Australian sport following his death.
