Filipino television presenter and former volleyball player Gretchen Ho has announced she has been successful with her application to participate in the Torch Relay for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In a post on Twitter, the 29-year-old confirmed she is among those selected by the Organising Committee to be a Torchbearer in the relay.

Ho, an anchor, reporter and presenter on ABS-CBN Corporation programmes in the country, shared a photo of the confirmation email she had received from Tokyo 2020.

"This is every athlete's dream," Ho wrote.

The Filipino star will be among the 10,000 set to carry the Torch during the Tokyo 2020 relay, which begins in Fukushima - struck by one of the worst natural disasters ever to hit Japan when an earthquake and tsunami triggered a nuclear disaster in 2011 - on March 19.

Around 16,000 people lost their lives and Tokyo 2020 organisers, and the International Olympic Committee, are attempting to use the Games to aid the recovery of the region.

Among the other confirmed Torchbearers are a father whose 12-year-old daughter was killed in the tsunami.

Olympic gold medallists Shinji Morisue and Kyoko Iwasaki, Japan rugby captain Michael Leitch, sumo grand champion Hakuho and Yomiuri Giants manager Tatsunori Hara are among the Japanese sportspeople who will run with the Torch.

Marathon champion Mizuki Noguchi is due to be the first Japanese person to carry the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch.

The Athens 2004 Olympic gold medallist will take the flame from a Greek runner after its traditional lighting at Ancient Olympia on March 12.

Judoka Tadahiro Nomura and wrestler Saori Yoshida, who have both won three Olympic gold medals for Japan, will also carry the Torch in Greece.

Members of Japan's FIFA Women’s World Cup-winning squad from 2011 are set to open the domestic leg of the Torch Relay on March 26.

Over half of the Torchbearers are expected to come from the general public.
