Colombian powerlifter Nohemi Carabali has been handed a four-year ban by the International Paralympic Committee after failing a drugs test for three illegal substances.

The under-50 kilograms athlete tested positive for metandienone, nandrolone and boldenone in a urine sample provided at July's World Para Powerlifting Championships in Nur-Sultan.

All three drugs are a type of steroid.

Carabali finished fourth at the World Championships in the Kazakh capital with an Americas record lift of 105kg, but all of her results from July 14 onward have now been erased.

Her ban will run from that date, meaning she is free to return to competition on July 13 2023.

A video posted to YouTube by Inspire Colombia celebrates her Americas record in Kazakhstan.

The Colombian began competing in 2014 and won a silver medal at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.

She did not compete at this year's Parapan American Games in Lima in September due to her failed test.
