Norway’s Jørgen Graabak and Jarl Magnus Riiber powered to victory in today’s men’s team sprint event which brought the weekend’s International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup action at the Italian resort of Val di Fiemme to a close.

The Norway I pairing finished close behind the Japanese pairing of Ryota Yamamoto and Akito Watabe in the opening ski jumping on the normal hill, which meant they started just two seconds behind when the second part of the event - the 2x7.5 kilometres cross-country - began.

Third place in the second discipline proved more than enough to bring Graabak and Riiber overall victory as the Japanese pairing managed only 15th place for an eventual ninth-placing overall.

Norway I – who had accumulated 282.8 points in the jumping behind Japan’s mark of 283.9 - finished 43.8 seconds ahead of Team Germany I, Fabian Riessle and Vinzenz Geiger, who were seventh in the cross-country.

Austria’s Lukas Greiderer and Martin Fritz earned their first podium place of the season in third place.

Japan I had made an outstanding start to the day with jumps of 103.5 and 103 metres from Yamamoto and Watabe respectively, with Graabak and Riiber registering 102m and 102.5m respectively.

While Riiber finished the cross-country with plenty of time to celebrate, the struggle for minor placing was fierce behind him as Norway II, Austria I and II and Germany I contested silver and bronze.

A strong finish by Geiger, who had beaten Riiber in the previous day's individual event having lost to him in the opener on Friday (January 10),  ensured Germany I, who had started 34 seconds behind Japan I, earned second place.

Bronze went to Austria II, who had started four seconds further back and ended 44.3 seconds adrift of the winners, with Austria I’s Franz-Josef Rehrl and Lukas Klapfer fourth 45.9 seconds behind.

The cross-country was won in 32min 48.3sec by the Finnish pairing of Ilkka Herola and Eero Hirvonen, who had finished 12th in the jumping, and ended up sixth 1:21.3 off the pace.

Italy I – Alessandro Pittin and Samuel Costa – finished second in the cross-country and, having taken 13th place in the jumping, eventually finished seventh.
