Iran’s Mohammadhossein Mohammadian produced an immense performance in taking the freestyle 97 kilograms title on day three of the United World Wrestling Ranking Series event in Rome.

Before beating Aliaksandr Hushtyn of Belarus 9-0 in the final at at the Italian capital's Centro Olimpico Matteo Pellicone, Mohammadian had amassed a scoreline of 32-0 in beating four opponents, including Olympic champion Kyle Snyder of the United States, whom he flattened at the point when he was 8-0 up.

Snyder and Ukraine’s Muraz Mchedlidze took the two bronze medals.

Mohammadian’s fellow Iranian Amir Zare celebrated his 19th birthday by winning the 125kg freestyle final against Russia’s Bilial Makhov, winner of the first of his three world titles when his opponent was only six-years-old.

A takedown with 32 seconds left earned Zare a 5-3 win.

Bronze medals went to Canada’s Amarveer Dhesi and Yusup Batirmurzaev of Kazakhstan.

Sarah Ann Hildenbrandt of the US produced one of the displays of a session involving five women’s finals as, having moved down to the 50kg category, she beat Romania’s fellow world silver medallist Emilia Vuc 4-2, despite being 2-1 down with only 10 seconds remaining.

She said afterwards that she had been spurred to tip the result her way by thinking of the following words: "You’re not going to win because I’m not going to lose."

Bronze medals went to Ukraine’s Oksana Livach and Victoria Lacey of the US.

Vinesh Vinesh of India won the 53kg gold with a 4-0 win over Ecuador’s Luisa Melendres.

Bronze went to Katherine Shai of the US and China’s Qianyu Pang.

Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus won the 55kg final against Ukraine’s Iryna Husyak,

Stalvira Orshush of Russia won the bronze medal. 

Russia’s Inna Trazhukova won the 65kg gold after defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Herhel, with Hsin Ping Pai of Chinese Taipei taking bronze.

At the 72kg weight the final was won by Germany’s Maria Selmaier, who beat Anastasiya Zimiankova of Belarus, as bronze went to Italy’s Enrica Rinaldi.

The event is due to conclude tomorrow.
