The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournament for 3x3 basketball will be held in Indian city Bengaluru, it has been announced.

India was already confirmed as the host country in October but the exact location and dates have now been revealed.

Twenty teams will take part in both the men's and women's qualifiers between March 18 and 22, with the event organised by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).

Tokyo will witness the Olympic debut of 3x3 basketball this year, where eight-team tournaments will be held for men and women.

Three places in each event will be up for grabs in Bengaluru, which hosted last year's International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's Asia Cup.

"We are excited to welcome teams from 36 different countries to Bengaluru, a city which has played host to successful FIBA competitions in recent history," said BFI President Govindaraj Kempareddy.

In November, FIBA announced the four men's and four women's teams who have automatically qualified for Tokyo 2020 through their world rankings.

Serbia, Russia and China earned their place alongside hosts Japan in the men's event, with Russia, China, Mongolia and Romania qualifying for the women's tournament.

Japan were only given one automatic berth at Tokyo 2020, to be used in either the men's or women's event.

It was awarded to the men because of their higher FIBA ranking, with the women now having to earn their place at their home Games by going to Bengaluru.

The countries contesting the qualifier have been decided through the world rankings and performance at last year's FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Amsterdam, although India have been given automatic places.

Mongolia, Poland, Brazil, Turkey and the Czech Republic have been drawn in Pool A of the men's event, with the United States, Lithuania, Belgium, South Korea and New Zealand in Pool B.

Slovenia, France, Qatar, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic are in Pool C and The Netherlands, Latvia, Canada, Croatia and hosts India are in Pool D.

In the women's event, France, the US, Germany, Uruguay and Indonesia will play in Pool A and Japan, Iran, Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Australia will do battle in Pool B.

The Netherlands, Estonia, Belarus, Hungary and Sri Lanka are in Pool C and India, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Chinese Taipei are in Pool D.

One spot per gender at Tokyo 2020 will also be up for grabs at a Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament, taking place in Hungary in April.

Only countries who have not been represented in the Olympic basketball tournaments at London 2012 and Rio 2016 are eligible, with places decided by rankings.

Eleven of the 12 teams currently in line to compete will also play in Bengaluru.
