Norway’s Therese Johaug and Russia’s Alexander Bolshunov extended their lead in the overall International Ski Federation (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup at Falun in Sweden.

Johaug was the clear favourite heading into the women’s 10 kilometre event, following victories in 11 of the last 13 World Cup distance events.

The Norwegian continued her impressive form after holding off the challenge of Sweden’s Ebba Andersson.

Johaug completed the event in a winning time of 25min 4.1sec, with Andersson finishing 6.5 seconds off the pace.

Norway’s Heidi Weng completed the podium places after finishing in 25:27.9.

She tops the overall standings on 1,690 points following the 23rd World Cup race of the season, with Russia’s Natalia Nepryaeva lying second on 1,212.

Bolshunov continued to pull away from his rivals in the men’s World Cup standings after a hard fought win in the men’s 15km race.
