The Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA) has shortlisted five designs following a competition for a new logo.

Eighty-two entries were received for the contest, which will lead to a new "Team Bermuda" emblem.

This will be used commercially on sponsorship materials and on athletes' non-ceremonial and non-competition kit.

It will complement the official BOA logo.

The five shortlisted designs have been put to an online vote here which will run here until February 21.

They have also been put on display at the Bermuda National Gallery in the island's capital Hamilton, where votes are also accepted.

The winning design will be announced on March 10 with the designers of each logo currently kept secret.

"We were overjoyed with the large number and high quality of submissions we received for the logo competition," said BOA vice president Brenda Dale.

It's clear that the many talented Bermudian designers who participated put a lot of thought, creativity and effort into their entries, and it was a challenging task to whittle the selection down to five choices.

"That said, I think we have five very strong, very different options that our athletes would be proud to wear, and our sponsors would be proud to display.

"We're looking forward to finding out what the public thinks."

Professional graphic designers and students, from both Bermuda and overseas, were among those to enter the contest.

The successful designer will receive a BMD$1,000 (£770/$1,000/€915) travel voucher.
