A collaboration agreement focused on Tokyo 2020 has been signed between the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and airline Iberia.

COE President Alejandro Blanco and Iberia counterpart Luis Gallego penned the deal at La Muñoza, located next to Madrid airport.

Under the terms of the partnership, Iberia, Spain's flag carrier airline, will facilitate trips of the COE and Spanish athletes to the Olympic Games and other events.

Iberia will also ramp up its promotion of the Spanish team in the lead-up to this year's Olympics.

The airline's latest Airbus A350 has also been christened "Equipo Olímpico Español" - Spanish Olympic team - as part of the agreement.

The Madrid-based Iberia, which flies to more than 300 destinations worldwide, will also participate in the Spanish House at Tokyo 2020.

"With this agreement the Spanish Olympic team puts itself in the best hands to fly to Tokyo," Blanco said.

"The Spanish company Iberia is a model of professionalism and efficiency in air transport."

Gallego said the airline was "proud" to support Spanish athletes prior to Tokyo 2020, which begins with the Opening Ceremony on July 24.
