The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced that South Africa and India will each host a Junior World Cup next year.

Potchefstroom in South Africa will be the venue for the 2021 Women’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup, with the tournament dates yet to be confirmed but likely to be towards the end of the year.

It will be the first time that the event is staged in Africa.

Locations in Asia, North America, Europe and South America have hosted the women's competition before, with Chile's capital Santiago staging the last edition in 2016.

The Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup of 2021 will be in India for the third time in a row, although neither a venue or dates have been confirmed yet.

It too will be held towards the end of 2021.

Lucknow hosted the event in 2016, when India became the first host nation to win the gold medal, and New Delhi before that in 2013.

Argentina are the reigning champions of the women's under-21 event.

Each tournament will feature 16 nations, with the six European entries decided.

Belgium, England, The Netherlands, Spain and Germany have qualified for both tournaments, while Russia secured a spot in the women's event and France will be competing in India.

The hosts also qualify automatically for each tournament.

That leaves two teams from Africa, three from Asia, two from Oceania and two from the Americas to still qualify for the men's jamboree.

One more African side, three from Asia, two from Oceania and three from the Americas will book their places in South Africa.

At the senior level, The Netherlands and Spain will co-host the 2022 Hockey Women's World Cup and India has been chosen to stage the men's tournament in 2023.
