The majority of China’s national team are currently taking part in a training camp at Qatar’s Aspire Academy.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) helped arrange training facilities for the team.

With support of the Qatar Table Tennis Association a 15-table set up, facilities for physical training, rehabilitation, medical equipment, meals and accommodation have been provided.

Their squad will compete at the Qatar Open at the start of March, before competing at the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Busan.

China will hope to defend the men’s and women’s titles they earned at 2018.

The JTTA are prepared to welcome Chinese players to their training base in the Kanto region, should they be unable to travel home after the event concluded on March 29.

"They are our rivals but they are also friends, not enemies,” a JTTA official told Kyodo News.

“We want to help when times are difficult.”

The outbreak of coronavirus - given the official name of COVID-19 by the World Health Organization – has impacted numerous sporting events.

Several events in China and Asia have been cancelled, postponed or relocated.

Chinese athletes have been impacted by the outbreak, with several countries imposing travel restrictions which have led to them missing events.

More than 76,000 people have now been infected around the world with 2,247 deaths so far.

The ITTF have helped source over 600,000 masks and supplied warm clothing to Wuhan – where the outbreak began.

Masks have been sourced and purchased overseas by the Chinese Table Tennis Association and are being "urgently packed and prepared for shipping", the ITTF said.

World Table Tennis, a new commercial arm funded by the ITTF, has donated warm clothing worth RMB3 million (£332,000/$427,000/€396,000) to support frontline workers in Wuhan, where the virus originated.

The clothing, being provided to doctors and nurses, includes winter jackets and sweaters, and the ITTF say it has been successfully shipped to the Chinese city.
