Kazakhstan and Japan shared the final women’s wrestling gold medals of the Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi.

Five gold medals were on offer on the second day of women’s wrestling at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

Yukako Kawai produced one of the performances of the day by beating reigning world champion Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan in the final second of the women’s 57 kilograms quarter-final match.

The Japanese wrestler, a World Championship silver medallist in 2018, then overcame India’s Sonam Sonam to reach the final.

Kawai clinched the continental title by winning 5-1 against Kazakhstan Ayaulym Kassymova in the gold medal match.

Tynybekova claimed a bronze medal after securing an 11-0 win over Sonam in their bout, while Nomin Purvee earned the final podium spot with a victory by fall against Vietnam’s Thi Nguyen.
