British Rowing has launched a campaign to help find new athletes to join its Para-rowing talent development programme.

The national governing body is asking for the rowing community’s assistance to share the campaign, entitled "GB Para-Rowing - Not For Everyone" and keep the success of the Para-rowing team going.

The British Para-rowing team have won 50 per cent of all gold medals awarded in the Paralympic Games since its introduction at Beijing 2008, but there is a very real possibility they may not have a full side after Tokyo 2020.

New athletes for all adaptive classifications – PR1, PR2 and PR3 – are currently being recruited.

"Our new campaign celebrates the incredible athleticism of the current squad and explores their journey into rowing," a British Rowing statement reads.

"We are asking your help to spread the word about the team and help us find the next athletes.

"The classification categories are diverse in their requirements – there may even be a rower in your club already who might not realise they are eligible to join the team."

Among the current members of British Rowing’s Para-rowing squad is Ellen Buttrick.

Only 12 months after she first attended a Para-rowing talent identification day, Buttrick helped Great Britain to victory in the PR3 mixed coxed four event at the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Bulgarian city Plovdiv.

The 24-year-old subsequently defended her title at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim in Austria.

She now has her sights set firmly on selection for this year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
