Russia’s Semen Pavlichenko won the final men’s race of the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup season in Königssee, while his compatriot Roman Repilov earned the overall title for the second time in his career.

Germany’s two-time Olympic singles champion Felix Loch had appeared on course for a first World Cup win of the season, after he posted the fastest first run of the competition.

The six-time singles world champion faltered with his second effort to end fourth overall.

Pavlichenko, who was second in the opening run, took Loch’s place at the top of the standings.

The Russian luger finished the competition with a combined time of 1min 38.359sec to end the World Cup season on a high.

Silver was claimed by Austria’s Jonas Mueller, who ended 0.003 seconds behind the winner.

Repilov completed the podium in 1:38.426.

The third-place finish was enough for the Russian to seal the overall World Cup title for the second time, having previously achieved the feat in 2017.

Repilov ended the season on 765 points, with Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller finishing 16 points behind in second.

Pavlichenko was third overall on 741 points.

Germany missed out on winning the overall team relay title for the first time since the event was introduced in 2004.

The German team of Anna Berreiter, Loch, Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken did finish on a high by winning the final race in 2:42.209.

United States’ Summer Britcher, Tucker West, Chris Mazdzer and Jayson Terdiman were second on 2:43.019, with Russia’s Viktoriia Demchenko, Semen Pavlichenko, Vladislav Yuzhakov and Iurii Prokhorov third in 2:43.217.

Russia’s third place finish saw them draw level with Italy at the top of the overall standings.

The two nations shared the team relay title after finishing the competition on 431 points.

Germany placed third on 415.
