Canada and the United States are set to battle it out at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) North American Singles and Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualification Tournament in Ontario.

The North American Olympic qualifying event is set to take place at My Table Tennis Club in the Canadian city, with competition scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday (March 8).

One place in the women's, men's and mixed doubles events at Tokyo 2020 is available.

Kanak Jha is considered the strongest player in the American men's team, having earned a bronze medal at last year's Pan American Games in Lima.

He is expected to be challenged by Eugene Wang, who has previously represented Canada at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

There will also be a mixed doubles competition, with the discipline set to make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

With the singles event due to take place tomorrow, the mixed doubles is set for Sunday.

"The goal for every table tennis player is to represent their country at the Olympics," said Tony Kiesenhofer, ITTF North America regional director.

"These trials are the Road to Tokyo."
